ACT at the NIEA Annual Convention in Oklahoma City, OK

October 17-20, 1999

An example of tightening partnership between NITI and ACT:

NITI invited us to the 30th Annual Convention of the National Indian Education Association in Oklahoma City, and offered to share with us its booth in the Convention's exhibit hall.

Needless to say, we accepted this offer with gratitude and set up a small display of Web-based tools for online collaboration and distance-independent learning.

In addition to the exhibit, NITI's President Karen Buller invited Vlad Wielbut to give an overview of current collaborative technologies at the pre-convention meeting of the American Indian College Fund, and ACT's Executive Director, Dan Atkins, gave a presentation to the presidents of tribal colleges at their post-convention gathering.

Aside from presenting ACT to the community of Native American educators, this trip allowed us to learn quite a bit about their needs and concerns in regard to technology supported learning, and,  perhaps most importantly, to win the support of tribal college presidents for ACT's proposal to "open the doors" of the Digital Library to the faculty and students at their respective campuses.
